Morgan State University’s WEAA 88.9 FM, “The Voice of the Community,” has broadcasted throughout the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan region since January 10, 1977. Its call letters, “We Educate African Americans,” reflects the station’s commitment to empowering, engaging, and educating its diverse audience. Over 2 visits, the project has recorded 17 oral histories and digitized more than 7 hours of archival programming recorded on 216 items.

Operating 24 hours a day, WEAA offers locally-produced news, public affairs, talk programming, as well as music spanning jazz, R&B, neo-soul, reggae, hip-hop, and gospel. As a service of Morgan State’s School of Global Journalism and Communication, WEAA also functions as a learning laboratory, preparing undergraduate and graduate students for careers in journalism, broadcasting, and media while providing programming that informs and entertains.
