The HBCU Radio Preservation project provides mini-grants, preservation training and workshops for campus stations, archivists, and community members. Most awarded funds support preservation efforts, specifically to purchase equipment and supplies for audio preservation. Grants ranging from $250 to $2,500 are awarded to stations and libraries to address station-identified needs. Funds may be used to purchase archival file folders, archival boxes, storage shelves, dehumidifiers, humidifiers, hygrothermometers, or other materials necessary to aid in the organization and stabilization of archival materials.

They may be used to cover membership dues in professional organizations that have a direct impact on the radio station or library’s capacity for preservation work (Society of American Archivists, Association for the Study of African American Life, History, state or regional history organizations) and to obtain technical information and networking opportunities, professional development, and to help offset the costs of attending relevant conferences and training opportunities.
